INTRODUCTION

Giclée prints are large format reproductions made from original art or photographs printed on a variety of media – watercolor paper, canvas, photographic paper, and other material. This type of art reproduction is widely embraced for its quality by major museums, galleries, publishers, artists, and photographers. Giclée prints offer exceptional quality, longevity, and flexibility of printing-on-demand. In a word – breathtaking!

Giclée (jee-clay) is a French word meaning “to spray or to squirt ink” originating in the 17th century. The digital method of printing was developed in 1989. Sometimes referred to as an “Iris Print” (after the original machine that produced the print), it became a ground-breaking technological advancement of Fine Art Printing with a resolution higher than the traditional 4-color offset or lithography printing, and a wider color range than a serigraph.

With over 20 years of experience in color reproduction techniques, our images carry all the magic of the original with the highest degree of color accuracy, exceptional clarity, fine detail and sharpness. Using the latest eleven-color inkjet technology, the prints have crisp contrast and rich, intense colors with extremely fine resolution that has no perceptible dot pattern. Our Giclée Prints are simply the closest duplication of an original artwork that is humanly, mechanically, or technically achievable.

THE PROCESS

Large format professional inkjet printers spray billions of microscopic droplets of ink per second capable of producing a single droplet as small as 4 picoliters to create a beautiful, almost continuous tone reproduction. The result of this process is an image as close to the original as possible. The resulting print has no coarse dot pattern, just richly saturated colors with every detail of the original image. Revolutionary super penetrating pigment inks are engineered to deliver incredible print quality and color brilliance.

The artwork is scanned from an original at high resolution. Our technicians will adjust the color balance on the digital image until the most accurate representation of the original art is achieved. A variety of materials can be used, including 100% acid free fine art paper or canvas, archival watercolor paper, glossy or luster photo paper.

With a resolution of 2880, 8.3 million dots per square inch (an 8x10 image has 664 million droplets), the detail and color vibrancy exceeds traditional printmaking technologies. An 8.5x11 proof is available on the selected material, by e-mail, or locally in-house on screen. After approval, Giclée prints are printed within 3 business days to be ready for pick-up or shipping. The image can be sprayed with a UV protective coating on request and will last as long as any other work of art.

The digital image is archived and stored at no charge. The artist has the advantage of printing additional copies on-demand, incurring only the sq. ft. cost.

ADVANTAGES

Giclée produced prints are largely faithful to the artist’s original and they have the look and feel of an original art. The latest inks used are exceptionally stable, resisting fade and color shift, offering 70-150 year light-fastness and UV-resistance under museum archival conditions, and 70 years under average indoor light conditions.

Giclées offer the collector the same physical properties of an original painting at a fraction of the price. Giclée prints are advantageous to artists who do not find it feasible to mass produce their work, but want to reproduce their art as needed, or on-demand.

Archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and films do, so digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client.

Another tremendous advantage of Giclée printing is that an artist or a photographer may have several galleries represent the same art and have the same image displayed at an art festival or special event to gain maximum exposure.

Giclée prints will exceed your greatest expectations!
